Dear Salesian
Family,
It is an honor
to serve as principal of Bishop Mora Salesian High School.
‘When
students resist our guidance, they have a reason. We may not
know what it is or agree that the resistance has validity, but
for them, it is real. That is what counts, because what teens
think and believe is what drives their behavior. It may be as
simple as not understanding our actions. Or it may have deep
roots in past experiences unknown to us. Therefore, when we
face resistance it can be helpful to back up and engage our
youngsters in a broader conversation regarding our commitment
to seeing them succeed. Our challenge is to communicate by
word and deed to our youngsters our commitment to their
success and our belief in their potential’.
(The
Parent Institute)
Salesian
High School is indeed committed to the success of our students. As
we prepare for our first quarter grading period I would like to
introduce two programs that will be implemented in the coming
weeks. (1) Mrs. Mijares and Mrs. Martinez will be directing an
after-school study hall. Study Hall will be required for all
students in the ‘danger zone’ (D’s or F’s). Parents of targeted
students must attend a meeting explaining the program and sign
an agreement contract. (2) Mr. Serrano and Mr. Marquez will be
overseeing a Mentorship Program. This program will randomly
match groups of students with a faculty member. The objective
is to discover, unlock, and achieve the potential of each
student.
A
big thank you to all the parents that attended our Back To
School Night. Many staff commented on the high attendance in
their classes and the enthusiasm exhibited by the parents
towards the new school year. Remember that one of the challenges
we face is broadening the foundation of our parental support.
Last month we celebrated three wonderful days (triduum) of
prayer, reconciliation, and togetherness. We were honored with
the presence of Bishop Emeritus Joseph Sartoris, the provincial
of the Salesian Society, Fr. David Prudy, and a host of
neighboring priests. The week ended with a picnic that was made
possible with the help of a group of our very own parents.
Congratulations to our new student council leaders: Christopher
Villarreal (ASB President), Christopher Guillen (ASB Vice
President), Joseph Rios (Treasure), Julio Benitez (Public
Relations), and Estuardo Muñoz (Secretary).
Your Principal,
Samuel Robles
