Community

  • Location - Salesian is located in Boyle Heights, just east of boys downtown in Los Angeles. the school is close to the 5, 60, and 10 freeways and is easily reached by bus or private auto.
  • Service area - Salesian students come from all areas of the metropolitan Los Angeles area including East Los Angeles, Echo Park, Lincoln Heights, El Serreno, Alhambra, Downey, South Gate, Bell, Huntington Park, Montebello, and other areas.

School

  • History - Salesian High School opened in 1958 and offered college prep programs in addition to courses in technology and business. Since the 1970's the school has emphasized a college preparatory curriculum. Recently, Salesian has opened programs to meet the needs of students who need extra enrichment in mathematics and English/reading. The Salesians of Don Bosco provide staffing and spiritual guidance to the school.
  • Accreditation - Salesian High School is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is a member of the National Catholic Education Association.
  • Enrollment - 400 boys        Student/Faculty Ratio 16 to 1
  • Faculty - 25;2 Salesians, 1Brother of  St. Patrick, 16 lay men, 6 lay women.
  • Curriculum - Salesian High School prepares all students to continue their education after high school. Each student is placed into a specific academic program based on his entrance exam results, teach recommendation, and interview. Honors and Advanced Placement courses are offered, as are courses designed for students who need special attention in reading and math. Salesian is equipped with state of the art computers in three separate technology centers on campus. Salesian also offers a strong arts curriculum with courses in drama, drawing, painting, and music.

Admission Policy

  • Admission to Salesian High School is open to all who have successfully completed the eighth grade in good standing. All applicants must complete the Application for Admission. In addition:
  • Ninth Grade Applicants - Take the Entrance Exam at Salesian. Attend an Admissions interview.

Tuition/Expenses

  • Salesian High School recognizes that many families struggle to send their children to Catholic schools. We make our best effort to keep our cost down. In 2008-09, total cost per student (tuition, fees, books) is 5,850. this amount is payable in a variety of monthly payment plans.

Financial Aid

  • The challenging of Salesian High School is to ensure that no young man is denied a Catholic Secondary education because of financial need. Financial aid is available for all families that qualify. Applicants must attend Financial Aid in February. In addition, academic scholarships are awarded to the top scorers on the Entrance Exam and the top ten ranked students in each class.

College Admissions

  •  In the past ten years, 95% of each graduating class has been accepted to college. Salesian alumni are now studying at Berkeley, Yale, Georgetown, USC, UCLA, Loyola Marymount, Long Beach State, Stanford, and many other colleges and universities.

Athletics

  • Salesian fields all levels of athletic teams in football, cross country, basketball, soccer, wrestling, volleyball, baseball, and track and field.
