The Mission of Bishop Mora Salesian High School

Bishop Mora Salesian High School's mission is to offer students from all socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds the kind of community that cares and challenges and the kind of education that empowers and liberates. Bishop Mora Salesian High School has a unique and explicitly religious mission. We fulfill our academic purpose and simultaneously promote a disposition to service, spark a passion for justice, and create a commitment to community. We design academic, co-curricular and religious activities to further this mission.

In particular, Bishop Mora Salesian High School exists as an archdiocesan inner-city school serving as a point of entry for the largely Catholic population of East, South, and South-Central Los Angeles. We are also an alternative for a community seeking a safe educational environment with a concerned faculty, within the Catholic and Salesian tradition of turning the negatives into positives.

We give hope that the Kingdom of God can exist in this particular place at this particular time, to offer the kind humanistic and holistic approach to education characterized by the followers of St. John Bosco, to guide students in developing the physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual potential of each student, helping the student to recognize his innate worth and dignity as a member of a Christian community of faith. We also assist students in developing Catholic moral values and strong personal convictions regarding their responsibilities to God, neighbor, and self as citizens in the modern world.

We facilitate a close interaction of parents, students, faculty, alumni, staff, and administrators in a Salesian-Family atmosphere based upon reason, religion, and kindness. By implementing St. John Bosco's educational philosophy of reason, religion, and kindness, known as the Preventive System, the school seeks to form self-disciplined and mature Christian graduates responsive to local, national, and world issues.
